TEXTILE INDUSTRY CRISIS

2009

Prato is a city near Florence with a population of about 180,000 inhabitants. One of the most important industrial districts in textile sector is undergoing a period of crisis began several years ago with the increasing competition from foreign producers.
Most of the factories in Prato and in its province are family-run, a large part of the smaller ones have already closed their business and the ones that survived bear a constant reduction of orders. The current financial crisis threats seriously the textile industry, the activity that holds the economy of Prato and its countryside.
