Directed by the first researcher Giampaolo Grassi, the Rovigo's branch of the Research Center for Industrial Cultivations, become the most important Italian lab in research on medical, textile and edible Indian hemp.
After the approval by the parliaments of some Italian regions of laws to guarantee, in accordance with the national law, the possibility of using medication made with cannabis, the research center became a benchmark for the studies about the types of cannabis useful for potential plantation in order to produce medication on Italian soil (nowadays prescription prepared with hemp com ing from abroad).
In this perspective an agreement with the Italian army pharmaceutical lab is under study (the lab is the only to have the authorization to prepare medication based on cannabis). Open air cultivations of textile and edible Indian hemp, the ones without THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, active narcotic principle of the plant), and lab cultivations of medical cannabis, the one with high percentage of THC, are followed to obtain strong and productive plants able to guarantee numerous life cycles.
